Now Entering

Now Entering is a look into the Black culture of Washington, DC with the use of portraits, street/documentary photography, video, and sound. I use portraiture to capture the people of the city in their raw element. Using street/documentary style shooting I wanted to capture the cultural structure of my city, as well as capturing the cultural aspects of DC.

My approach is to put the viewer inside of the city of DC, showcasing and uplifting the black culture, history, and community. Using video and sound is a key aspect of this project. With it, I am able to not only show the city in motion but also engulf the viewer, having them be able to hear the sounds of the city and give them multiple perspectives. Documenting the city is more important than ever, especially because things are changing. With gentrification gradually taking over, the culture is on a cliff teetering until gentrification gives it that fatal push. We have to preserve and be proud of our culture and history and my way of doing that is to document it.
