Reclaiming Her
Reclaiming Her is a series of photographs that explores the ideas of vulnerability, reclaiming notions of the body, and confronting self image. Photographs of my body are meant to make me fall in love with myself again. I created photographs of my body that were made to look landscaped in an ethereal light to prove to myself that I too could be ethereal. I used flowers as a stand in for the delicateness feminine bodies supposedly have. The shadows I use in the photographs speak to the invisible imposing rules that are given and the punishments that are forced onto women. Fragments of skin and flesh , quiet and contemplative moments, almost meditative captured of my own body and others close to me, I am focusing on available light, as a symbol for the ethereal light, that I hope to obtain and celebrate as I come to understand myself and accept my body as a sensual being. In this body of work Reclaiming Her I am putting forward or bringing attention to the controversial experiences I have faced as a woman about my self image and body by showing my own attempt to heal as I attempt to take back what was taken from me a long time ago.
