To The End

To The End is a series of collages and digital manipulations of photographs expressing examples of climate change and how it affects the world around me. Ever since the industrial revolution, we have discovered a million and one ways to strip the planet of it’s resources for our own gain. By using images of Philadelphia, I can show that this city is a product of those greater issues. I live and experience life in Philadelphia, so I utilize it as a lens to show that these larger problems are considerably much more local than we think.

With collage and digital manipulation being key components of this work, I add and subtract pieces of the image to create an analog glitching effect. I utilize source imagery I have collected of the city to use for the layering and I also remove small, delicate pieces from the image to let the space behind become visible, showing that our actions throughout history have placed us on a very delicate scale. Although the Earth itself is not delicate, the way we take our next moves are.

It is an issue full of complexities with no easy solution but working towards a goal is always better than having none at all. Either we change what we are doing now, or we will truly take ourselves to the end.
