Family Style
Family Style is a photographic exploration of the way love manifests itself through food. Food is something that occupies so much space in our lives. It is a source of community and pride, and nothing brings individuals together in the same way that gathering around a meal can. Through editorial and still life photography, Madeline is reimagining her most formative food experiences in a series of full-color archival inkjet prints, each one centered around a different sentimental food memory from throughout her life. Family Style began with the artist’s love for food and food photography, and it evolved into a way to honor her loved ones and appreciate the culmination of years of shared meals and family gatherings that helped shape who she is today.
Madeline Giquinto is an artist with a focus in food and lifestyle photography, originally from South Jersey. She was raised in a large Italian family where gathering together was a priority, especially around food. Since childhood, she’s witnessed the profound bonds and lasting memories that only a meal with loved ones can bring, and she’s been trying to capture that magic ever since. Photography is her preferred medium, as it allows for the artist to manipulate reality to match the energy or emotion behind a specific moment. She enjoys working with vivid, often bright color and highly contrasted lighting to achieve this. Through this project, she hopes to encompass the reverence she has for family (in all its forms), food, and the medium of photography itself.
