An Exploration of Conciousness

My project, An Exploration of Consciousness is a collection of photographs inspired by my own experiences navigating the pandemic. In this work, I focus on themes of consciousness vs. disorientation and desire for physical touch and contact. Collaboration with other artists, often dancers or other performing artists plays a major role in this project, in particular due to our collective experiences during a pandemic. I’ve used a warm purple color palette to create a sense of calm and comfort for the viewer which conflicts with the strange and bizarre imagery. Selected images work together as diptychs, showing a passage of time, as the movement seems more unnatural and bizarre through this exploration of over time. Considering my models as “characters” to represent myself or others in my life, I’ve recounted my experiences having Covid and aim to highlight the disorientation, desire for physical closeness, and discomfort I experienced through that time.
