The (In)visible War

The (In)visible War is about individuals and their lives living with mental illness. Through this project, they have shared their stories to help others to understand their struggle with mental issues. Each individual’s fight is unique and this project looks at a diverse range of types of mental health illnesses. The images in this project create a visual representation of each person's daily life as well as the internal struggle that often goes unseen and unspoken. The purpose of this project is to bring awareness to mental illness as a whole and provide resources for others who are struggling.

The (In)visible War is a project that’s goal is to share individual’s stories of mental illness. I began by conducting an interview with each person to be able to understand their story and the uniqueness of their struggle. From these interviews, I created voice recordings to give deeper insight into their background. I worked closely with each person to be able to share their perspective correctly. The first set of images are documentary images of each individual in their space. These are moments that are representative of their daily lives. The final image of each person is a composite image that represents the internal fight that each face. I used physical objects to represent some of the symptoms that are felt when dealing with mental illness. These composited images are full of details that are important to each person's story.
